GSM firmware

The GSM radio transponders on some makes of smart-phones could be reprogrammed to support Mesh Datagram Protocol (MDP) on bands such as the 900 MHz ISM band. That frequency band offers a greater range but lower data rate than Wi-Fi, and thus will produce a much larger scale, lower speed mesh. This is a very ambitious goal, and would require collaboration with industry partners.

In the meantime, the Mesh Extender should provide a long-range ISM band solution with some advantages over an integrated handset solution, such as larger battery and outboard support for iPhone and feature phone apps.
